Dear Mom,
i know that i haven't been the greatest daughter..
nor the smartest.
nor the kindest.
nor the cutest.
but i LOVE you with all my heart.
despite of all the differences and the fights and the sarcasm we say to each other throughout the years.
despite of all the things other people say or think or feel towards our little family.
despite of all the stormy weathers.
in my eyes,
you are the STRONGEST person i've ever known.
how you struggled in your past... to get the beat out of yourself, your education, your family, and your love.
how you sacrificed your feeling, your pride, and your religion to be united with your beloved.
how you married your husband and loved him with your soul, through the good and the bad, happy or sad, sickness and health, till death parted you... and even now, after his departure, you love him still.
how you cried your heart out when no one listen.
how you tried to break down all the barriers, be reckoned, and stayed low.
how you raise your daughters with your own touches and disciplines.
how you pray every night for your family.
i know that i could never be as strong as you. as loving as you.
and i may not be able to compose the most beautiful prayer, but i wish you these..
health, love, and happiness.
HEALTH.. i hope you'll be granted good health till many more years to come. do not let the drama carry you away. do not worry much about those people who always try to tear our family apart.
LOVE.. even if we, your daughters, do not seem to care much. you always be the queen of our heart. you may still love your past husband, but if someday you might want to open your heart and discover a new love in the face of another… i will be right there at your side.
HAPPINESS.. i hope that your life is filled with abundant little things that will keep you happy and content. i wish that i can be one of those little things that can make you happy and proud.
God bless you.
HAPPY 54th BIRTHDAY MOM :)

Jakarta, March 1, 2010,
your loving daughter ♥
I arrived in Tugu Train Station at 5.30 am that Saturday morning after spending approximately 9 hours journey from Jakarta. An encouragement hug was given by B before my train left - i needed that.
The air was cool and crisp. I heard language and accent familiar to my ear, offering foods, snacks and transport. Once you're in Jogja, it's a must for you to ride on a Becak (tricycle traditional transport) and just feel the air touches your face.
Usually, Lusy has already stood by, ready to pick me up. But since she's back to her hometown, i prefer to stay a little longer at the station. An hour afterward, my aunt and uncle also arrived from Jakarta. The family from my father side gathered in Jogja for the 1000 days commemoration of my father's pass. After a cup of coffee with my aunt and uncle, which i think they didn't really enjoy that much, i decided to stay and wandered around the city by myself. I have no good reason to go straight to my father's old place anyway.
I met up with a good old friend from college, Beni, the very same morning. He took my red flowery backpack so that i can walk lightly around the city. It was too early to stroll in Malioboro, it was only 8.00 am. That was the time when i spotted that Trans Jogja bus shelter in front of Inna Garuda hotel. "Let's try on this!" i said to myself. Minutes later, I was nicely seated inside Trans Jogja bus, heading towards Ambarukmo Mall.
After some killing time at Ambarukmo Plaza - AmPlaz (i heard AmPlaz, i reckon Ambon Plaza), rummaging about shoes and reminiscing the joy of high school every time i saw group of girls wearing tartan blue skirt and over sized shirt (that's Stella Duce's uniform for Friday and Saturday) - I was picked up by Beni and Vina, his fiancee. Together, we went to Solo to Ardy-Nita's wedding reception.
Funny, I was the only one who showed up single. Funny for other people, i suppose. Unknowingly (or rather, dumbly) talking about how pity one was for one person in front of that person as if that person is not exist is not acceptable. What a strength, i only needed to endure such gazes for 3 hours.
I went straight to my father's old place (as for now, i'm gonna refer to it as grandpa's) later that night. I arrived at midnight, in a familiar house, a house i used to know. They (my uncle's family who lived there with my grandpa) have built some new extensions to the house. Blah, i guess they have money after all. I greeted my family there, then greeted my mom (she's been in Jogja for 2 days), then forget about everything else.
The House
I slept deep for 4-5 hours. The cracking sound of incoming family members woke me up, lazily. They really got what it took to bug other people peace! They shouted louder than those barking dogs.
That warm day, I saw my father's sanctuary. It's made from shinny black marmer with a small white/gold Italian-made cross on the headrest. I looked closer, I saw the mistake carvings on the information tablet. They wrote May 20 as my father birth date... when in fact, it's August 29. Want to hear some funny stuff? They blamed my Mom for their own mistake! They said my Mom was the one who gave such information, yelled at her in front of people - I was not there at the time.
The following day was SSDD. Same Shit Different Day. We served foods and snacks to people. We held a commemoration mass. I worked and helped people out like zombie. As soon as people left, i wiped my smile out of my face. I only got mellow and heartbroken when i saw my Mom's crying in the dark beside my father's tomb later that night. So much love, so much pain. At last, my job with all "commemoration" fuss... was done.
I took my mother and my little sister for a trip on Tuesday. We rarely have a holiday together, so i took the moment to get them to Prambanan Temple and Kraton Ratu Boko ruins (still, with Trans Jogja). We ate lunch at Kedai Cobek at AmPlaz, a must-try restaurant in my opinion. My mom's appetite was hilarious!! SHE ATE A LOT, like she has not been feed for a week (which was quite close to the truth). Then we had a near-fire experience while browsing for shoes! hahaha thin smokes coming out from nowhere... it was a "kortsluit".
J.co at Malioboro Mall was my next stop. I met Jenny and Inov, my former high school friends :) They looked just just the same; just add hair length and hair colour. Bitching around, talking in Javanese language for 4 hours were fun hehe though i have to admit i am more comfortable talking in Bahasa or in English. Javanese need some extra effort, you know. We jumped to a 50,000 IDR worth taxi ride as soon as the mall closed. My mom was so tired walking the whole day.
I took my mom and my sister the next day to eat Gudeg Bu Wiwik at Wijilan, before my flight. The price for a portion of Gudeg + chicken + egg - 25,000 IDR - was quite epensive compared to other (that's according to C) but the taste was "oh so original!" Gudeg, which is made from jackfruit added with spices etc., can be extremely sweet for first-timers :) but that's how food is usually made in Jogja, sweet. One should combine the "gudeg" with the "krecek", one of it's spicy side dish. Accompany your food with tea, then you are officially in Jogja!
I met Beni and Vina again before i left. They helped me to get to Trans Jogja, heading to airport. My backpack was filled with dirty clothes, my belly filled with gudeg, my other bag filled with Bakpia Bu Sri Putri (my favourite "bakpia" brand) for friends and collega. I dragged my exhausted body to the airplane. Will be home any minute now.
I kissed my grandpa and my father goodbye, hoping to see them soon.
For what it's worth... I love Jogja, I will always love Jogja.
HO.
I will go to Jogjakarta tonight, by train: Taksaka 20.45 pm.
A part of me is upset because i cannot go to Java Rockin' Land 2009 with Zee and Ari T.T
A part of me is a little excited, because i haven't been to Jogja for almost 2 years now!
However, in the midst of all the excitement, i am still upset because my best friend Lusy is currently not in Jogja. Meaning: I will be missing a companion, a free ride, and free lodging! :P *spoiled*
I only pack some clothes and will only carry a bag pack. The rest of my clothing is already brought by my mom and sister. Both my mom and my sister left for Jogja yesterday morning :)
Anyway, since Lusy will not be around, I decided to have a look at Trans Jogja. Trans Jogja is a bus network that covers Jogjakarta city and its surrounding area. The network itself is quite new, for about 1-1,5 year now. Last time i went to Jogja, it was still building bus shelters.
Please have a look below :)
>> Trans Jogja Route << Trans Jogja also goes around to the airport (Adisucipto) and the railway statiun (Tugu) so it is easy for tourists or traveller to access. Cheap, too. Only IDR 3000 per ride, approximatelly 10 cents for foreigners hehehe (yeah, if you want to compare it to a single bus ride in other countries). I remember my high school bus ride in Jogja 7 years ago (Wow, 7 years ago!!!), the fee was only IDR 150... freakin cheap! and I was used to hang to the side pole of the bus with my skirt blown whenever the bus was too full.
Back to Trans Jogja. So i've printed the map! They say that we can also get the map there, but better be prepared right ;) Be ready for my next journal.
I read an article in Kompas.com just now about baby's gender detector.
Alat Canggih Pun Keliru Tebak Jenis Kelamin Bayi
NEW YORK, KOMPAS.com — Enam ibu di New York, AS, menggugat perusahaan pembuat alat pendeteksi jenis kelamin bayi.
First people guess baby's gender through how the mother look like during the pregnancy.
Then comes the machine. Through USG, the doctors can almost accurately predict the baby's gender. There are also amniocentesis and DNA test to diagnose any infections and abnormality of the fetus.
Now come along baby's gender detector. I looked it up on Google; the name's actually Baby Gender Mentor - Prenatal Gender Detection. This is what wikipedia has to say:
Baby Gender Mentor is the trade name of a controversial blood test designed to determine whether a pregnant woman is carrying a male or female child. The test is made by Acu-Gen Biolab, Inc., a biotech company in Lowell, Massachusetts, United States, and is marketed to detect the sex of a fetus as early as five weeks after conception. The test made a prominent media debut on 17 June 2005 on The Today Show and about 4,500 people had purchased the test by March 2006.
The company says that the accuracy of the test exceeds that of conventional methods, such as ultrasonography, amniocentesis, or chorionic villus sampling techniques, and that their test offers "unsurpassed accuracy, unrivaled earliness, and uncompromised promptness". However, they have not made public any clinical evidence to support these claims. Customers and scientists have questioned the accuracy of the test, and legal action is being pursued against Acu-Gen as well as a major supplier of the test.
Oh yes, it is still not accurate!
I remember how my little sister could accurately predict an unborn baby's gender. It was like a gift, or something like that. was. Maybe she was all so pure she can see things. It is the same gift that my grandmother possessed, too. I don't know, we don't know if my sister can still predict babies.
It is fun to normally play around and guess what gender the baby will be. Confused of how the baby's room should be: baby blue or pink? Green or yellow or white or whatever will do just fine.
Pff... what ever happen to "You have a boy!" or "You have a girl!" excitements?
I have a thing with Rihanna.
It's not about the singer, nor the song, nor the super sexy hairstyle of hers.
It's her concert.
Two years ago, Rihanna was about to hold a concert in Amsterdam on November 18. My friends and I were about to go and have some fun there. But then my father passed away on November 16. And i had to go back home to Indonesia. So... I missed the concert. and my father.
This year, in few days, Rihanna is going to hold a concert in Jakarta on November 14. I was considering to go... but my party/concert sisters are not here... plus the ticket price is off the ceiling. Too freakin high for "just" a Rihanna, in my opinion.
It's quite funny it is. Even if i decided to go to the concert, i will have to cancel it again... because my family will hold a eucharist in memory of my father on November 14.
HA HA HA... It's been two years, yet it links well.
Rihanna's concert and my father's death.
Very odd. very odd indeed.
OK. Now i should stop blabbering.
Saturday, September 6. It's 7 something. Ratna, a friend from Bali, called. Giving me some tips for my upcoming event. Then it's almost 8 when Niels, a friend from Holland, called. WTF is he doing up so late [it's around 3am in Holland]. He claimed to have trouble sleeping. So, he's coming to Indo soon. Yay! It means i will get some things from C and also from Niels. Right Niels schat? ^^
I canceled my appointment with Ck to go to Gading and went to a cousin's wedding instead - together with my mom, sis, and another cousin. The reception was held in King restaurant - next to ibu Dibyo [ticketing] in Cikini. The wedding united two different families from two different cultures, Batak and Chinese.
Way back before the wedding was held, the Batak family was quite hesitated because of the differences and how would the Batak family accept her soon-to-be Chinese husband. I remember her referred to how my mom stood up, decided to be together with my dad, and survive the cultural differences, etc [way way back at my mom's time] till now. I actually shed a little tear there, just a little.
The reception was hectic, people eating and stuff... got me so confused >.<' The bride (kakak Elta) and the groom (koko Bani) looked so happy. The groom was so funny - especially during the wedding kiss xoxoxo. The food was all right; fortunately, the crowd was even more delicious than the food :P Banyak yang lucu [as i texted B] - ada yang botak menggemaskan, ada yang gondrong kewl, ada yang jabrik-jabrik berlesung pipi, even ada yang bergaya ala vanness [minus the goatie]!!! hohoho lumayan cuci mata sejenak XD
So after the dinner, and the flower toss [NO NO i didn't try to get the flower! am not a big fan of weddings], and the photo session, we said goodbye to families we know. Some tante i never know tell me, with a pressure, that I should marry a Batak. I smiled away. Dalam hati saya langsung berteriak, "Najis! OGAH OGAH! Gak Mau! Cukup!" - no offense to the Batak people, I just don't appreciate if people I don't know suddenly tell me what to do with my life.
I slept too much yesterday that the insomnia really kicked me last night. After watching 3 eps of Gossip Girl [Season 1] with my sis, still i couldn't get some sleep. And by the time i can actually close my eyes [2am, maybe...], RING RING... my sis bf called. JEEZZ! my sis left her mobile on my room. I discarded the call, and tried to get to sleep again.
I did sleep. Till some time around 6. RING. Another call from my sis bf. And another. and another. As if that was not enough, another guy setting his call as private number call me on and off and on and off this morning. Wrong number, dude!! JEEEEEEZZZZ it was really annoying. It goes on and on from 6 to 9. Bayangkan betapa menyebalkannya orang tak dikenal itu!
To redeem my anger, I spent lots of money buying lots of food in carrefour today. Happy now.
Fooooooood =^.^=
Here's what i do this weekend!
* Attend a friend's wedding. Lala is my friend back from high school in Jogja. I went there with Shirley [pake acara nyasar-nyasar dikit] and met some other friends. Selamat menempuh hidup baru, lala!
* Grocery shopping and cleaning up! cleaning up here means gardening [baca: menyiram kembang :P] and ironing two big basket full of clothes! hahahahah.. it's been a while since i did those kind of chorus.
* Cook!!! So i cooked asparagus soup and spicy tuna fusilli ^^ and some other insignificant stuffs. I still want to cook Paella and Risotto yumyum
[update: Monday, September 1 - i stupidly forgot to bring my fusilli.
* Browsing, sending stuffs to people. Take a look at Agnes Monica's newest clip Godai Aku Lagi. Some drools in awe, some ignores, some comments. I personally think the clip is a little bit provocative considering that it is released close to Ramadhan time in Indonesia.
>> Yuli says, "huhauhau val ini lady marmalade campur britney spears campur men in black campur thriller campur spice girls (posh bukan sih...) hahahha tapi kok tepos? Gag pake chicken fillet? [val: LOL XD XD XD] makin ngile entar hihihi"
>> Golda says, "ini mah versi campuran yang ga jelas abis nich vaaal.. tau sapa yg bikin konsep..tapi at least udah ada orang indo yg brani bikin gnian yach huehehehe... not bad la..."
Anyway, she's a talented girl; my sister adores her.
For those who does not know AgMon, this is her > > > > >
*Update - September 2, 2008
E says,
1. Song:
Soooooo Britney/Madonna/PussycatDolls/every possible pop star you can imagine. Love the urban-disco-pop-esque type of music, nice, fresh & very-AgMon-like (takin other musician influence & make it her own)
2. Video:
Ok, she copied a lot of things from movies & other v-clip, I happen to know some of it.
First, J.Lo's big earing & tanned skin [val: i came up with this idea!], Christina Aguilera's Lady Marmalade / Ain't no other man / Moulin Rouge-esque dress-hair-make-up (the changing room scene).
Second, abduction scene, Madonna's Nothing Really Matters / Spice Girls Who Do You Think You Are / OTT's Story of Love,
Third, the dessert scenes, from the movie Jumper & Aeon Flux (sooooo Charlize Theron).
Well, isn't it quite obvious that he LOVES agmon? And there he goes singing agmon's songs :P
*
* Reading Paulo Coelho The Witch of Portobello... then fell asleep. then read again, then fell asleep again. It's not that the book is not interesting, it's just i'm being a daylight sleepyhead lately. However, when it comes to night, i suddenly become insomnia again >.<' [update: Just got this link... Browse inside Paulo Coelho The Fifth Mountain, check it out!]
* Eating SUSHI TEI with Niev the baldie [plus he refers himself as sexy, doh]. Am still amazed on how CUPU he is :P Hopefully some meaningless photos are coming right up.
[Update: September 5, 2008]
Here is the picture:
Nv, this is called SPICY SALMON MAKI - therefore it is suppose to be SPICY!!!
ha ha ha ha ha XD *tawa penuh kemenangan* sapa suruh dicekokin ini tetep dimakan juga. dasar jelek-botak-putih-sipit! Hey, i should have taken your picture to show the world how cupu you're.
I AM PACKING!
Tapi bolehlah disela-sela packing kita cuci mata dulu. So, rencana mau bangun pagi-pagi terus jalan penuh sejarah ke MONAS and ke museum gajah demi merayakan sehari menjelang 17 agustus-an [yes, i am being a nationalist!] GAGAL total wahahahahahah.. Me and my family went to Pondok Indah Mall instead. I had my cousin staying over in my house for several months while her husband is doing his study in Bogor [he's a soldier].
Daripada sepupu saya bengong-bengong di rumah maen Sudoku [Ouw, my mom and my cousin got addicted to SUDOKU!!!!], lebih baik kita jalan-jalan laaaaah
I bought my self a purple dress and two new books: Paulo Coelho's The Witch of Portobello and Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner! Good, i got myself readings during my vakantie in Bali ;)
Puas muter-muter PIM sampe gempor... [and i think i saw Cherry, one of my friends from Holland] I went to Plaza Senayan to meet my friend Chika and a new guy, Julius. I thought he lives somewhere in Pusat or Selatan when he finally said that he lives in Gading. Gosh, gading lagi gading lagi! He's a nice guy and lil bit cute with the hat :) He's Chika's friend - a friend she had for years but never got the chance to meet in person, till today! We spent our money buying some frappes at Starbucks [baru minggu lalu nongkrong di sini, doh!], chatted about stuffs and blablabla...
My girl Ck's confused about her current "relationship". Darling, i guess you're just having your syndrome of. I had it before. Ho, that's a whole different story. However, I applause you for being sober in whatever decision you made :D Cowo mah ngantri ck klo buat elo, hilang satu eh yang baru nongol lagi. Bagi-bagi gue, ck!
Home. Chat a bit with Cz. You go, boy!
Then i realize that it's a lil bit too late for packing :P
nyeh... I'll do it tomorrow hehehe
oyasuminasai!
P. S. We bumped into Agnes Monica at XXi Senayan. Wow, she's tan and gorgeous!
aku kangen papa.
I haven't talk to him for a while now. Somehow, i want to suppress all of my memories about him. We never really spent quality times together, anyway. A part of me still blaming myself for everything that happened. A part of me said there was nothing i could do to stop it from happening.
He's far away now. Sometimes i came to visit him in Jogja; a monologue about my recent life. And the fact that i still can not understand why everything had to happen the way it happened... The guilty feeling i keep inside is too enormous for me to handle. Jealousy shown in my eyes whenever i see some girls walk with their fathers with smiles on their faces. Sometimes it slips away and creeps out through my tears when i look at his photograph.
It happened again yesterday while i watch a video from monkey majik, "together". I realized that that i feel terribly alone when he was not there to say happy birthday to me (i wonder how my mom can endure a day without him).
But i am a big girl now. I have to suck it up; i have to survive this.
I never really said this out loud... aku sayang papa.
Yay! My sister's birthday!
Her name is Lisa, btw. She's 19 today.
Wish her all the best, esp on being an independent person.

"It's a wild wild world out there, my dear. Whatever harm I've done by saying sarcastic words or stubborn acts to you is meant to equip you to be BOLD!
With love, sister."
I was miles and miles away at that time.
jadi...
Selamat ulang tahun, papa...
Something that i'm aware. All of us is already on HIS waiting list. I can't verify that statement, really.
Satu hal yang pasti, I always miss my Dad. I'm 23 now. Yet, i feel that i spend too little time with him. I'm not quite satisfied with His decision for some inexplicable reasons. But then again, it's all been done. Sekarang saatnya menunggu kapan akan ketemu papa lagi.
Until then, i hope i can cherish every tiny moment with mum and lysa that God grants me.
4.46 pm.
14 minutes to go.
Banyak yang udah kita lewatin.. tapi masih banyak lagi yang masih harus kita hadapin, if we want to stay together. Ga mudah emang klo kita hidup di negara and culture yang masih memandang dari atas ke bawah tentang segala hal and masih terlalu strict untuk menerima perbedaan.
Hope we can make it.
